I just returned from Knowledgefest which is a trade show for specialty mobile electronics retailers. AKA where you get the cool stuff for your ride before the OEM releases it. One technology discussed was vehicle convenience. For example, check out the availability of Viper SmartStart for Windows Phone. Although the platform may not have the Über-users of iPhone or Android-platform rigs, there are still some cool tricks Microsoft packaged into their product.
And if you are lucky enough to have a Windows Phone and Viper SmartStart you can do some trick things. Like have your vehicle location automatically come up on a map on the phone that is easily viewed and loads quickly. Or have the system check your schedule and remind you to remote start your car by looking at the weather and your next appointment. Cool stuff!
Viper SmartStart Now Available for Windows® Phone
Vista, California (June 24, 2013) – Directed is pleased to announce another industry first in the connected car space – the award winning Viper SmartStart app is now available in the Windows Phone Store. In late 2011, Directed collaborated with Microsoft developers to author an exclusive version of Viper SmartStart for Windows Phone that was subsequently showcased by Microsoft at their sold out BUILD conference in Anaheim, CA. Windows developers worldwide were treated to a preview of the reality of the cloud‐connected car and how it would change the way smartphone users interact with their vehicles in the future. “We’re very excited about having partnered with Microsoft to extend Viper SmartStart products to the Windows Phone platform, and the opportunity to comprehensively connect Windows Phone users with their vehicles as part of their daily lives,” said Mike Simmons, President of Directed. The original app has now been fully built‐out to include all of the powerful features of Viper SmartStart 3.1, including remote start, SmartStart GPS family safety tools, connected car with 2‐way status and diagnostic code notification, and other innovations such as SmartSchedule – the first intelligent remote start reminder system that keeps track of your schedule and the weather
and alerts you when it’s time to start your car. The free (demo) version of the app requires no subscription or hardware, and includes valuable features such as SmartPark parking locator, and Parking Meter utility.
Keep tabs on the security of your vehicle, and get alerted if it goes somewhere you want to know about, or over the speed limit. Lock and unlock the vehicle easily without fumbling for your keys. Start and warm your car from inside your house in the morning on cold winter days or cool it when it’s hot and sunny outside.
