Why are MyFordTouch and AppLink Mutually Exclusive Technologies?

The power of journalism gives those who hold the pen the ability to bitch about a product, or more specifically, one of its features.  Last week, I let the cat out of the bag and discussed my new 2013 Ford C Max.  To paraphrase, I love it so far.

The first week I had the vehicle I had no interest in the infotainment system.  I was too busy enjoying the lack of noise from the powertrain.  And cleaning the floormats while keeping tar off of the wheels.   I love this car!

Then ennui sets in and I integrated my diet of Sirius radio into the mix.

Today, I decided to integrate the MOG service into the head unit directly from AppLink.  I was listening to my tracks through Bluetooth Audio, but now I wanted to go wired, iPhone ready for action.

I carefully looked at the screen on the MyFordTouch page where apps are located, but there is no AppLink.  It seems MyFordTouch and AppLink are mutually exclusive.  In other words, I have all of the bells and whistles in my top-of-the-line SEL, but not AppLink.  It seems Ford in its infinite wisdom only packages the AppLink with lower-level models of the C-Max.  What?!  Give me telematics or give me death!

There is online discussion of integrating AppLink into MyFordTouch.  Please Ford, make a priority to send the USB drive upgrade as quickly as possible to dealers.  If you can reconfigure the home screen once the vehicles are dismissed from the factory, figure out a way to let us get our apps.  Especially when we ponied up for the best.  Rant concluded.
