BMW says it is launching an app designed to better inform buyers and lessees about the optional add-ons they can purchase at their dealers’ F&I departments.
According to the press release from the Bavarians, “BMW customers interested in ‘Ultimate Protection Products’ can now visually familiarize themselves with various insurance options and bundled packages before entering the F&I office” thanks to the app, which the release said was optimized for iPad, but is also viewable on Android devices. Not that the last part matters, as the app is being released only to dealers’ mobile devices, according to the press release — there is no public version.
BMW Group Financial Services Insurance General Manager Steve Bottieri said, “Our protection products provide our customers with peace of mind, lending itself to a better experience during their lease or loan with BMW Financial Services. By visually displaying the parts of the car that are covered by our protection products, we can demonstrate a true value proposition, while our customers feel informed and are more engaged in the process.”
The release said BMW customers would be handed a tablet at the dealership before heading into the F&I office. The app will allow the customer to see protection plans specific to their state or region, with the ability to display individual car models on the screen as an example. Tapping various parts of the displayed vehicle allows the customer to view various product information, which “[prompts] a more communicative discussion with F&I professionals at the dealership,” according to the press release.
In my case, it would prompt a more exhaustive list of all the things I decidedly do not want to add to my monthly payment, but then, I’m a cheapskate not likely to grace a BMW showroom anytime soon. If you’re a BMW shopper who dislikes getting hit with a barrage of unfamiliar “protection plans” and “security services” with which you’re not familiar right as you’re trying to sign the financial papers, however, it sounds like the app might help you be better informed about what’s in it for you. Maybe.
