The 2014 BMW X5 went on sale just a few months ago, but BMW is wasting no time releasing performance-oriented parts for it.
The Bavarian automaker hyped its new line of OEM performance parts at the Chicago Auto Show this month. According to a press release, the BMW X5 is getting the full complement of BMW M Performance goodies.
Exterior enhancements for the BMW X5 are heavy on carbon fiber, the release said. Or would that be, light on carbon fiber? I dunno. Semantics are not my strong point, m’kay? Anyway, BMW said the M Performance carbon fiber parts for the X5 include mirror caps, front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear aero flaps. A rear spoiler, high-gloss black kidney grilles and M Performance rocker panel decals are also available, the release said. Double-spoke 21-inch wheels with performance tires may also be added.
The interior of the BMW X5 can be given the carbon fiber treatment, as well, the release said. Carbon fiber elements inside include a cover for the gear selector and other accents. An available Alcantara steering wheel kicks up the performance cred of the BMW X5’s tiller.
Go-fast goodies are normally part and parcel of BMW’s M Performance accessory lineup, and the BMW X5’s M Performance accessories are no exception, according to BMW. The automaker said an M Performance Power Kit is available for the 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine found in the BMW X5 xDrive35i. The kit reportedly adds 20 horsepower and 32 ft-lbs of torque, which makes the BMW X5’s performance specs top out at 320 horsepower and 332 ft-lbs. BMW said the throttle calibration is sharpened with the kit, as well. Finally, a chrome-tipped M Performance Exhaust kit gives all those performance increases a slightly more authoritative voice.
The M Performance Brake Kit dials up some woah to match the extra go provided by the Power Kit, BMW said. It is derived from the previous-generation X5M, according to the automaker.
As a final benefit, BMW said the M Performance parts for the BMW X5 are warranted for the full four-year, 50,000-mile warranty period provided by the automaker as long as they’re installed by an authorized BMW dealer. Also, BMW said the parts add-ons can be “fully residualized” in a lease from BMW Financial Services.
