The interwebz in Europe were abuzz with the news that Google’s counter-offensive to Apple’s CarPlay will be called “Projected Mode.” Through a help-wanted ad. Or maybe not.

Have you ever worked at a company where HR knew exactly what the engineers were doing? Anyway, as the story goes, via Engaget: Daimler put up an ad for a software engineer to help develop a technology to take what is on the smartphone and put it on the in-car infotainment screen.

“You are responsible for the application integration of smartphones using the Google Android operating system by means of Google projected mode to the head unit.”  Could this be the name of the technology? Or just bad German translation?  I say Achtung! before proceeding with caution.

Curiously, Daimler is not a member of the Open Automotive Alliance (that’s GM, Honda, Hyundai, andNVIDIA), so indeed they may be doing their own thing when it comes to Android-powered infotainment.
