BMW tells us its 6 Series Gran Coupe — that’s the blasphemous, four-door 6’er, for those of you keeping score at home — will get Bang & Olufsen sound. If you want that combination of sexy look and top-shelf sound, you had better get down to your nearest BMW dealership and speak up now: Production is going to be extremely limited.
The BMW press release said just 100 BMW 650i Gran Coupe models will get Bang & Olufsen sound for the 2015 model year. Furthermore, if you’re the type who wants more go with your show, you’ll only have the slightest chance of getting your hands on one: Production of M6 Gran Coupes with Bang & Olufsen sound will be limited to a scant 10 cars. Yes, 10 whole cars.
As if these Bang & Olufsen-equipped 6 Series Gran Coupes needed any help being more exclusive, BMW said they will be offered in two unique paint shades from the BMW Individual collection: Brilliant White Metallic or Dark Graphite II Metallic.
The dirty details on the Bang & Olufsen system are what really excite us, however. If ever there was a chance for another German automaker to outdo the Burmester High-End Audio system in the Porsche Cayman S, this is it: The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe Bang & Olufsen sound system features 1,200 watts of juice pumping through 16 active loudspeakers. And because you’re clearly an audiophile if you’re willing to spend the $120,000 (rear-wheel drive) to $153,000 (M6 Bang & Olufsen Edition) to get into one of these sound-enhanced 6’ers, BMW said all buyers of Bang & Olufsen 6 Series Gran Coupes will get a set of black BeoPlay H6 high-end headphones specially finished in the same brushed aluminum treatment as the car’s loudspeaker grilles.
Finally, the interior will get customization beyond the sweet Bang & Olufsen sound system. BMW said the 6 Series Gran Coupe Bang & Olufsen edition gets seats covered in “the finest Merino leather” in either black or white with contrast stitching and piping. Piano black wood trim rounds out the interior’s classy touches that help set the B&O special edition apart from other 6’ers, according to BMW.
BMW said orders are being taken now for the limited-edition Bang & Olufsen 6 Series Gran Coupes, with delivery expected this summer.
